A light bulb moment happens, I search, I click, and 30-45 minutes later I pop my head up from my screen and realize I just spent quite a bit of time doing something – but not anything on my to-do list.  And of course, I feel like I just wasted time.  But did I?  I found things that didn’t link like they should, URLs that didn’t make sense, dead ends where there should’ve been a natural customer journey, a cool video idea, a podcast I want to start following, an idea for our next team meeting, and the list goes on.

Sometimes a rabbit trail is a conversation I’m having with a close friend or my boyfriend.  The kind of person you can ramble a bit with.  These rambling journeys can uncover gems – insights and a-ha moments with endless potentialities.

There’s a time for focused attention and checking the boxes and there’s a time for rabbit trails.
