It’s hard to give my petty egoic thoughts any weight while watching video footage from the war in Ukraine. Immediately, one wonders why we (the world) can’t just find the love that is always present. The contrast between love and the devastation witnessed is so heart-wrenching.
Yet, while we are stuck in our little fenced-in world, in our little fenced-in mind we can find ourselves petty and judgmental and the always present love is nowhere to be found here either.
For a moment I am ashamed of my thoughts as I witness a seemingly incomprehensible war. But after the tv is off and the distance causes me to forget, I am back to my little fenced-in world.
I do not believe this is something to be ashamed of. I do not believe I should judge myself harshly for my human nature. But I do believe if I’m curious enough I can keep a better perspective; I can stretch my boundaries to see beyond my limited view.
