If we’re not having fun, then what’s the point?  This may seem overly simplistic, but I’ve decided that it needs to be a focus for me – returning to a natural guiding principle from my youth.

Fun and laughter were always important to me.  Lately, I’ve reminded myself, again, that the end does not justify the means.  Like many adults and business owners, I find myself just doing all the things and worrying too much about the outcomes.  And I’m always in a hurry.

It should be flow over hurry, fun over just getting it done.  Magic happens but never when my energy is dense and constricted.  Creativity requires lightness and ease.  I often say that marketing is sharing one’s passion with the world, but I lose my passion for what I do when it’s merely made up of tasks that need to be completed.

We’re in business to do things our own way.  And my way is the fun way.  I suspect it is the same for many of you.

Today, I didn’t do anything much different than I would’ve normally.  It was the same tasks, but the energy behind the tasks was different.  They were done with joy in mind.  They were done because I had the privilege to do them, not because I had to do them.

I just reminded myself that I’m not happy, content, joyful and having fun when I [fill in the blank].  Being happy, content, joyful, and having fun come first.
